Non Volatile characteristics in the Data Warehouse

Data warehouse is a collection of data that has a subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant, as well as remain on the collection of data to be able to support a management decision making process. The four characteristics of the Data Warehouse is a Non Volatile. Non Volatile in this case meant that the data – data from different data sources is collected into the Data Warehouse, data manipulation experience should not be in the form of edit, update, and delete. The slightest changes should not be made to the data. The data must be intact as when originally derived from that data source. It can be understood that logically, data – data in the Data Warehouse as well as the purpose of the Data Warehouse itself is to help process data analysis, using a system of OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing).
Non Volatile characteristics in the Data Warehouse

Data Warehouse concerned with the existence of Historical Data, to support the process of data analysis that he does in the future. This is, of course, different from the source transactional data sources – other. For example, a Database allows the existence of processes Alter (the previous data is piled up with the new data). E.g. through data manipulation in the form of Insert, Delete, Edit, and Update.

To be able to apply the characteristics of Non-Volatile this then needs for separator location and function between the Data Warehouse with the Operational Database. Operational Database will always experience a change in the form of data manipulation (Delete, Update, and Edit) as a result of the application of the system of OLTP. Changes the changes – will not affect data – the data stored in the Data Warehouse, the existence of such separation.
